Romania joins L’Étape by Tour de France family

“We are honored to bring L’Étape by Tour de France to Romania, a legendary brand, unique in the world. Thus, we put Bucharest on the map of world cycling, being the 20th city that joins the expansion race of the L’Étape Series, an emblematic project that started almost 30 years ago. We invite the cycling community in the country and abroad to live the experience and adventure of the great champions, in the first L’Étape by Tour de France race in Romania, which will tell the whole world the cycling story of Bucharest, the Little Paris of the East. We thank all the authorities and sponsors without whom this dream could not have come true ", says Tudor Ștefan MOCUȚA, MPG CEO.

L’Étape by Tour de France will have, starting with 2022, the edition of L’Étape Romania, which will take place on August 27-28 in Bucharest. Both the competitors and the tourists and inhabitants of the Romanian Capital city are greeted with many surprises for this unique event:

  • the three races being organized are: The Race 85 km (2 x city loop), The Ride 42 km (1 x city loop) and The CITY ADVENTURE 14 km, for beginners and children.
  • participants will be able to discover, starting from the immediate vicinity of Constitution Square, on Unirii Blvd., important arteries such as Calea Victoriei, Kiseleff Boulevard and Libertății Boulevard, attractions that emanate history: the Arc de Triomphe, the Palace of Parliament, the C.E.C. Palace, the imposing building of the Bucharest City Hall, the Army House or the Romanian Athenaeum.
  • L'Étape Romania by Tour de France Village will tell everyone the story of the legendary brand through an exhibition and numerous thematic activations, and on August 28, cyclists will become kings on two wheels for a day, experiencing the excitement of this iconic competition in the same race conditions like the professionals, from the starting point to the finish line, competing on the three routes to win the famous yellow jersey, a symbol of victory, excellence, passion and determination.

The Tour de France is the most famous cycling race in the world, watched every year with passion by millions of fans around the world. The legendary sporting event began in 1903, and the concept of L’Etape by Tour de France was born naturally in 1993, out of a desire to give amateur cyclists a chance to live this unique experience.

The Race Village will contain an open-air museum showcasing the brand, warm-up area, food court, mechanical assistance for cyclists, massage area, stage awards area and many interesting activations designed by the sponsors and partners of the event.

The event takes place in partnership with the Bucharest City Hall, the Department of Culture, Education, Tourism and PROEDUS. The institutional partners that support the event are the French Embassy, ​​the Ministry of Sports and the Romanian Cycling Federation.
